We at BTR have been asked to help represent the case and plight of Mr. Clinton Young. Mr. Young is currently facing a pending October 26, 2017 execution warrant, issued in June of this year by Judge Robert Moore. Judge Moore was a visiting judge to the 238th District Court in Midland Texas. Mr. Young was convicted of double murder in Texas in early 2003 over incidents occurring between November 24 and 26, 2001. Details surrounding the deaths of both Doyle Douglas and Samuel Petrey have always been contentious in nature. Recent forensic testing has surfaced that corroborates Mr. Young’s description of the events that unfolded in November of 2001.
A Jessica Vilerius documentary, Dead Met De Dood or Deal with Death: Clinton Lee Young, documents the subjects and details in this tragic case from Midland, Texas. Ms. Vilerius is a Dutch filmmaker who cares deeply about injustice and the death penalty. We will be attempting to contact Ms. Vilerius to get her perspective on the case in the coming days. The documentary linked below is in Dutch but is easily understandable for those who do not speak the language. An international (English subtitled) version of the powerful Jessica Vilerius documentary available on Vimeo is linked at the end of this article. We urge everyone to please give this documentary your attention and look forward to your responses and help.
We were forwarded a copy of the October 2, 2017 Writ of Habeas Corpus filed on behalf of Mr. Clinton Young. In the 250-page writ, Mr. Young’s team of public defenders have raised a litany of evidence and issues related to Mr. Young’s odyssey through the judicial system in Texas. We will be looking at the writ in much more detail shortly. Issues ranging from Brady violations to ineffective assistance of counsel to new DNA and gunshot residue tests make a strong case for Mr. Young’s defense. We urge everyone to consider this incredibly important, possibly landmark case. We at BTR will be happy to answer any questions and to pass issues along to Mr. Young’s team as we work diligently, with your help, in obtaining justice for this young man.
Due to the many and varied issues raised by defense counsel, Mr. Young was granted an evidentiary hearing scheduled for October 16, 2017. Central to these new arguments are issues surrounding a pair of gloves worn on the night of Mr Petrey’s murder. Co-defendant David Page has admitted to wearing these same gloves the night of the shooting. No one has ever claimed Mr. Young wore the gloves at any time throughout the investigation and trial. Recent testing shows the gloves to be saturated with gunshot residue. The gloves also contain the DNA of David Page and not that of Clinton Young. There are many twists and turns concerning the conflicting stories told by David Page and we will get to those shortly in another space.
As of October 10, 2017, the 385th Judicial District Court has canceled the hearing scheduled for the 16th and will issue a decision without hearing Mr. Young or Page. No date has been given for this decision. Defense counsel has asked for the execution warrant to be rescinded in light of new evidence. Interesting to note that Page was set to testify in the above hearing after being granted immunity for any pertinent testimony. One is left to wonder if he was indeed willing to take responsibility for shooting Samuel Petrey. The judge’s decision to cancel the hearing without hearing from either Young or Page is also shrouded in mystery. Why offer immunity to Page for his (possibly yet again changing) testimony, only to then cancel the hearing altogether? We will be seeking answers to these and other questions in the coming days.

In this case, we have the stories of two tragic and needless deaths. The families of those who lost their lives needlessly can never be compensated for their losses. We also have the stories of several co-conspirators whose lives were forever changed over some horrendous choices. The lives of those surrounding these young men have been forever altered as well. We have a Dutch film-maker who saw something that made her want to investigate and to dig deeper where a criminal justice system in the US had chosen not to. Instead deciding to simply end a man’s life rather than looking for the TRUTH.
Mr. Young’s defense team has just today launched a new website for people wishing to come together in support of this extremely important cause. We, as a society owe our support and our devotion to stopping instances of injustice in this and other countries. The United States may be embroiled in political controversy, but issues of justice and right and wrong transcend political ideology. We invite people from all over the world to join us in our quest to shed light on the case of Clinton Lee Young and to bring his plight into the mainstream of our discussions on justice reform. Join us in our efforts to stop another senseless state sponsored killing based on false testimony and evidence. Help us save Clinton Lee Young.
